While it is true that both husband and wife working is a desirable goal, I think we must also consider senthil1's comment above. I personally know desi consulting companies that have placed people on B1 visa, altered resumes to overstate experiences etc. If the rednecks have brought a bad name to the whites, desi consulting companies surely have given Indian immigrants (specially in the SW sector) a bad name. As part of our current effort to voice our issues, we must also look at where we might have gone wrong.

For your Information India's GDP is 3 trillion USD compare to Mexico 1 trillion USD. Taking into account GDP of EU India ranks 5th in GDP higher than any indivisual European nation where as Mexico ranks 13th. This is as per CIA worldfactbook. So where did you get the number

But since you raised the subject, PPP GDP is adjusted to accomodate for different inflation and consumption rates in different countries. Without the PPT adjustment, India's GDP is equal to Mexico's, even though India has 11 times the population of Mexico. The reason India comes in 4th with the PPP adjustment in the world is because the ruppee is undervalued and Indians have a purchasing power that is 4 times smaller than Mexicans. So, to humor you and use your method of calculation, the Per Capita GDP (PPP) Of India is $3,344 in 2006 and Mexico's is $12,886. "Where are all the Mexican doctores, computer scientists, economists and professors?" you ask. The answer is: They are IN MEXICO making huge salaries, when the Indian ones have to come here because their salaries in India don't give them enough money to eat. Why aren't all the construction workers and lawn workers in the U.S. Indian? Because they cannot affor the airfare. The Mexicans just walk accross the border. Any you know what? All those Indian Professors at Harvard etc are teaching class to all those rich Mexican kids. I had a LUD on 7/28 and nothing after that... My I140 approved in Texas in April2006. I think we should get the receipt number here pretty soon...
Why do you have this hunch?
It seems like all the LUDs on approved I140 from Texas for July filers is pointing towards their I485 being sent to Texas too. Hence, this unimaginable prolonged delay. Can we do anything about it except sulk?

If we see the history H1B and GC numbers were never increased except 2004 20k inpast 15 years In 2000 it was increasd temporarlily for 4 years.Also EB numbers were never increased except temporary reliefs.If it is increased by Skill bill in current form that is really an acheivement. If there is a possiblity they may increase H1B because that is temorary visa(But in reallity not) and GC numbers may remain same. But if increased to 115k then also cap will be reached in another 1 month because there are more number of Desi companies than number of H1Bs. Thats why they are asking exemptions for MS people and 20% adjustment for every year. We have to wait and see whether congress fall on this trap to do this without analysing the impact.

We need many people working everyday continuously over a period of time. It cannot be --"As and when I get time, i will try. Or I am already contributing by posting ideas on the forum. Or I am EB2 and my date will be current soon so I do not really care, I am not desperate for green card so do not bother me by contacting me. Or IV is for EB2 and I am EB3. Or IV is for Indians and I am ROW." Stop thinking IV just a forum like other forums of lawyers or trackers where the aim is to make money from the long wait and run a business. Here we want to fix the problem so that we no longer need Immigration Voice and all of us can move on in our lives and professional careers.
There have been times when we evaluated our decision of continuing this work after hearing lot of negative comments from our community or seeing lack of participation. A recent proof is the recent funding drive for advocacy day and our thousands of phone calls to members asking them to come to DC. It is not easy to organize any event and it takes lot of planning and funds. None of the members who used to write negative posts after every visa bulletin urging IV to do an event in DC came to DC event or even contributed. Many in the IV team are still involved with this effort even after getting their greencards only to succeed in what we all started out to do together. The commitment needs to be there so that many people can help out even during the day time. One option is for members to have their homemaker spouses volunteer for IV work. We have so many ideas we can work on if there are more sincere people who commit to helping out. Funds are also important. AILA has a budget of 13 million dollars/yr and they can do a lot in terms of advocacy, filing lawsuits, talking with offices on regular basis, organizing conferences each year where lawyers pay to hear USCIS officials, media outreach, meeting other organizations etc etc . They have people in DC to go and meet offices on daily basis. Likewise anti-immigrants too have millions of dollar budgets. You do not see their forums filled with posts of infighting. suspicion and baseless arguments that we have. Many of our posts do not even project us as well educated and mature individuals. We can blame whoever we want-- employers, government, lawyers, karma.... but the real reason why this retrogression problem still exists is because all of us in the community have allowed it to exist. Only we are responsible for the success and failure of our efforts. Nothing is impossible if we have strength and resolve to advocate our issues.

Its easy to point at IV core for direction, but where is everyone when IV core gives a direction? There was a thread poll for another rally, but how many members came forward? How many IV members made an effort to convince others to vote on that poll so that IV core can plan for a rally?
If IV members do not come forward for contributions and action items then IV core has to make do with limited funds and use them thriftily. That only means lesser results for us.
It was the lobbying that got the bills introduced, so the least that we can do is contribute towards the lobbying expense. Its not going to work if everyone says that they will contribute when a bill comes on the floor.
I guess the reason most of the people are not contributing is because they do not see any strategy going forward. I am sure IV core is working hard on the issues but there is lack of clarity as an organization.When the bulletins come out and dates dont move forward significantly, people start with various ideas ranging from flower campaign to eliminating country cap to EB3 - EB2 portability to ....( Most of them die by the middle of the month).If we look at the past, contribution campaigns have been successful ( up to reasonable extent) when there is a favorable bill on the floor and people see some hope. I remember till last year there was a guy ( I think Chandu13 ) who tried to motivate people for contribution by calling them coward, lazy.....Believe me it never worked...
So I think it is time to get serious and have some synergy and that might motivate people to come forward, participate and contribute.

Did you send out the latest letters...I am getting a positive feed back ..that approximately at least 500 letters have gone out..we started to make noise.. and we will see the results eventually...More action items will follow in comming weeks..Dont forget the high five though campaign though ;)

Well, you assume family members can get AP and EAD after submitting I-485. Not true for many people. Take myself as an example, I was not lucky enough to file my I485 in 2007. So with a PD of early 2007, I have none of the benefit from AOS at all.
Although for me it's not a big deal because my wife will soon get her PhD and will file for her own immigration petition. This actually works better for us, because it will make the line much shorter and both of us will get the green card much quicker.
However, for those who do not work and solely depend on their spouses to get green card. This change can spell disaster for them during the long wait caused by retrogression without the ability to file AOS.
